Innovative Colour Visualisation Tool for Aircraft Painting

PPG has introduced a web-based digital tool aimed at business and general aviation customers, enabling users to explore and customise aircraft paint schemes without relying on traditional physical colour references.

The new “Aeroview” virtual aircraft painter allows users to select from a range of aircraft models and apply colours from PPG’s aerospace coatings library, generating 3D renderings of custom paint schemes in real time. The tool is currently available for US aerospace coatings products only.

According to PPG, the new system is intended to improve accessibility to its aerospace coatings portfolio, particularly within the business and general aviation segment. It replaces the conventional workflow of consulting physical colour brochures with an interactive, browser-based interface.

“By allowing users to digitally customise paint schemes on specific aircraft models, this tool helps reduce design uncertainty, minimise costly repaint errors and accelerate project approvals,” said Lirong Bao, PPG global platform director, Aerospace Coatings.

Aircraft Coating Design and Maintenance Planning

The digital platform offers several functions relevant to coating professionals and fleet managers. Users can browse hundreds of colour and finish combinations, save completed designs, and share or archive them for future reference — including maintenance planning purposes.

The new solution also integrates with PPG’s “Liverylab” studio service, which supports customers with livery design projects requiring more detailed assistance.

The tool is directed at designers, fleet managers, maintenance planners and others involved in aircraft coating decisions. It is available online.
