BASF Coatings is history
The company BASF Coatings has officialy launched as an independent company under the name Surventis. The majority owners are funds managed by the investment firm Carlyle in partnership with the Qatar Investment Authority. BASF continues to hold a 40 percent stake.
With annual sales of around 3.9 billion euros and approximately 10,700 employees, the company ranks among the larger providers of automotive coatings and surface treatment solutions. It serves more than 42,000 customers in over 140 countries, and its network comprises more than 30 production and development sites. The headquarters is located in Münster, which is also home to the company’s largest integrated production site for coatings worldwide.
The portfolio remains unchanged and includes established brands such as Chemetall, Glasurit and R-M for industrial, automotive and refinish customers. Products, technologies and technical teams will also be continued to ensure continuity in quality and service.
Focus on technology and growth
As an independent company, the coatings manufacturer aims to operate with greater speed and agility. Carlyle intends to support the business through targeted investments in global capabilities and local production, drawing on its experience in building independent industrial companies.

Executive Committee
The company is led by an Executive Committee headed by CEO Jens Luehring. It also includes CFO Michael Pontzen and Chief Transformation Officer Ewout van Jarwaarde. The committee is complemented by Nils Lessmann (Executive Vice President Operations Mobility/Refinish) and the heads of the three business units: Frank Naber (Surface Treatment), Patrick Zhao (Mobility Coatings) and Steve Arndt (Refinish Coatings).
