AI-supported planning for paint shops

Axalta has announced a partnership with aspaara, a provider of AI-based optimisation solutions for planning and operational processes in paint shops.

The solution will become part of the coating manufacturer’s Drivus portfolio and is intended to help bodyshops and refinishing operations organise their workflows more efficiently.

Once integrated into existing management systems, the AI application creates a digital replica of the respective paint shop. According to the providers, the system carries out more than 5,000 dynamic simulations each week and adapts in real time to operational conditions. The aim is to reduce bottlenecks and increase throughput without requiring additional staff. The manufacturer states that throughput can be increased by up to 16 per cent and that planning effort can be reduced by up to 75 per cent. A return on investment is said to be achievable within two months.

The software supports individual steps in the painting process and is designed to shorten repair times, improve on-time delivery and enhance the utilisation of spray booths and staff. Shop managers and owners can accept, adjust or block the system’s recommendations.

Roll-out across the EMEA region

“This addition to Axalta’s service portfolio strengthens our position as a business partner for our customers,” explains Fabien Boschetti, Vice President of Sales in the Refinish business unit for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The use of AI, he adds, is the next step following digital tools for colour matching and fully automated mixing machines. After an initial launch in Switzerland, the offering is now being rolled out to customers across the entire EMEA region.
